Annotation
on the report "Topical issues of translation ethics"
Translation ethics is a relatively new field of ethical research, which raises the issues of ethical norms in translation, which have both linguistic and non-linguistic character, namely, the content aspect of translation, that is, the ability to convey the material translated, the problem of applying technical means of translation, multiculturalism in translation and the issue of interethnic understanding, the rules of professional conduct of translator.
In this paper, we consider the issues of professional ethics of the translator and its components, in particular moral principles, rules, norms of activity, issues of professional competence and their significance for translation. Translator renders the text in a different language, in which he has no right to cut or add information. He should not be biased, but respect the freedom and not degrade the dignity of the interlocutor. Subject to the provision of diplomatic authority, an interpreter may, for the sake of maintaining friendly diplomatic relations, adjust the text, using the politically correct lexis, in order to prevent the complication of relations. Translator must take care of his health, since the quality of translation depends on his physical condition. Among the qualities that determine professional aptitude, we commonly refer to speech reactivity, good memory, ability to switch, mental stability, sociableness, intelligence.
The presentation contains data on a few main theorists and practitioners of oral and written translation, who touched upon the issues of translation ethics: Miram H.E., Alexeeva I.S., Klymenko O.A.
We have to the conclusion that the profession of translator integrates a number of professions, united by the skills of analysis and synthesis of oral or written texts in two languages. Studying and solving ethical problems of translation will promote better communication and understanding among peoples.
