The report is aimed at forming a holistic system of knowledge about Ukrainian mythology as the most ancient form of consciousness and the beginning of the culture of mankind; acquainting readers with the peculiarities of the mythological worldview of ancient Ukrainians - the relationship between religious beliefs and mythological outlook - the artistic and historical functions of mythology, the genesis of mythology and its ideological orientation, peculiarities of the artistic image of characters, typological motifs and images of myths. Today, humanity more and more often draws attention not only to material, but also to spiritual culture, experiencing its decline, and is trying to find something universal that harmoniously combines all the elements of human existence. It is such a comprehensive category of myth that the famous philosopher and historian Mircea Eliade wrote: "To know the myth means to come closer to the mystery of the origin of all things. In other words, a person learns not only about how everything came about, but also how to identify and reproduce it when everything is gone. "
